Samsara
Saṃsāra
An Offensive Board Game
By Guilherme Töws
Components
One Pawn per person ('Karma') + 6 Pawns per person ('Souls')
One special pawn ('Buddha')
One dice
One board, explained below
The board has an outer ring with 12 sections and an inner ring with 6 sections.
Outer Ring - Clockwise from the 12 o'clock mark:
Ignorance - Move the Buddha to another World.
Deeds - Move one Soul to an adjacent world. Repeat this three times.
Consciousness - Move the Buddha to a World with none of the enemy Souls. If there's no such World, no movement occurs.
Name and Form - Exchange all Souls from a single World with all Souls from another World. The Buddha remains in its position.
The Senses - Exchange positions of a Soul with one of its opposing Souls.
Contact - Move a Soul to where a Soul of the same kind is. If this is the last Soul of its type, it has no effect.
Emotion - Move a Soul to where an opposing Soul is.
Desire - Move the Buddha to a World with none of your Souls. If there's no such World, no movement occurs.
Grasping - Move any number of Souls from the same World to an adjacent one.
Becoming - Move one Soul to any World.
Birth - Move a Soul up the wheel, towards the World of Gods. If the Soul is in the World of Hell, it may ascend in either direction.
Death - Move a Soul down the wheel, towards the World of Hell. If the Soul is in the World of Gods, it may descend in either direction.
Inner Ring - Clockwise from top:
World of Gods
World of Humans
World of Animals
World of Hell
World of Wraiths
World of Titans
How to Play
Each player places one Soul in each World, then places their Karma pawn in one of the outer ring positions. The Buddha starts in the World of Gods.
Most silent player starts.
On their turn, each player rolls the dice, then moves the Karma pawn clockwise or counter-clockwise in the outer ring. The position where the Karma pawn lands determines what action he must take regarding the Souls.
After this action, the player may choose to remove one Soul that is in the same World as the Buddha; this Soul is placed outside the board (in Nirvana) and is out of the game
Play continues with the next player.
First player to have no Souls in the board wins.
